How To Find Your Purpose
If you're honest with yourself....you are probably one of the millions of people who have no idea what they want to do with their lives.
You might be stuck in a cycle of doing similar things everyday and work everyday that just blends into the next day, the next week, the next year and before you realise it, you wake up one day and ten years have gone by.
You may be woken up by a serious life incident, an incident of some kind or just a sudden realisation.
Serious life incidents include, serious accidents or serious illness to you or someone close to you, the death of someone close to you, divorce, losing your job, being declared bankrupt, being evicted from your home or some other highly emotional event.
On the next level it could be the birth of your first child, child's first day at school, child leaving home, partner leaving you.
Next, might be a song that connects your head to your spine and tingles it. A film, a book, a drug, a bottle of great wine, a near miss, a quote or something someone says to you that strikes a cord.
What Does "Waking UP" look like
Waking up is the sudden realisation that there must be more to life than "this" or that you want to make a difference....what is my purpose? But when people say, “What should I do with my life?” or “What is my life's purpose?” what they’re actually saying and asking is: “What can I do with my time that is important?”
This is a better question to ask yourself than trying to change the world, because if you do something that is important it might just lead you to your purpose and that might just change the world.
So there are lots of questions you can ask yourself but let's make things easy for you and narrow it down to 7 things; here is number 1
1. What Pain are You Prepared to Endure?
Anything that you do that is worthwhile and that benefits you emotionally or financially will come with a cost. The question here is - are you prepared to pay the cost?
What does cost mean?
To have a great body for example, you need to watch what you eat and be prepared to give up some junk food, the odd glass of wine, slouching on the couch - that is the cost.
Your beliefs about what makes a good body don't matter, what matters is the science. If you eat properly, eat live food, your greens, protein and avoid the processed stuff, including sugary soda and heavy alcohol then it stands to reason that your internal chemicals will be better equipped to allow your brain and muscles to serve you well. You will have better energy and that means you can go for that run and pump that iron to make you look better.
So the benefits of a great body are there for all to see, the price, the cost is giving up some of the things you might enjoy.
If you want a great job, you may need to get a college degree and the price would be to study when you want to hang out with friends instead.
If you want to be a great lawyer, not only do you have to get the degree and put up with rejection from potential employers but you also have to put up with 70 and 80 hour work-weeks.
If you want to be an entrepreneur, you will have to pay the price of rejection.
So what price are you willing to pay? Find out what that is and pay it.
Can you stay up all night?
Can you get rejected time after time and keep going?
Could you stand to be laughed off stage time and again but get up there the next day?
Would you put off starting a family for a number of years until you succeed?
Question 2 is in the next blog post
