Rant Post - Donald Trump

Russians.

Stormy Daniels.

Resignations.

North Korea.

I watch from afar in the UK and I'm interested.

I'm interested in the polarity and the vitriol on both sides.

I'm interested in how a story can be reported and interpreted in completely different ways.

What does this have to do with raising finance or angel investment?

I see developers and entrepreneurs position themselves and present a deal to investors and I see investors jump at the chance or totally avoid getting involved.  And they were in the same room looking at the same proposal.  What's going on?

What is going on is the lens through which the proposal is viewed.  The filter.

That filter is the emotional make-up of the presenter and the audience and it's only on rare occasions that they are totally in sync.

Take Trump supporters; they look at anything he says or does through the filter of Make America Great Again (MAGA) - is what he is saying or doing Making American Great Again?

No matter what, they will make it fit.

Non-Trump supporters view him as the worst thing that ever happened to America and they don't hold back on their criticism of virtually everything he does.

So with North Korea, the main stream news (MSN) reported that the leader of North Korea and South Korea met at the demilitarised zone and shook hands.

A pretty big deal by any stretch of the imagination.

Even though the South Koreans were on record as stating that Trump was instrumental in making that happen, the non-Trump supporters either refused to accept that silently or were vitriolic in suggesting that he had nothing to do with it.

As an observer, I'm more interested in the polarity and emotion that cause one reaction or another because it can have an impact on pitching and presenting.

I will be analysing and deconstructing that over the next few weeks both here and on the podcast.
