Rant Post - Brexit - Johnson, Trump et al

Yes, I am an official Guinness World Record Holder in Public Speaking

I therefore have held audiences captive using my silky oratory skills.

So I understand the tactics to holding people hostage with words; that's not always a good thing.

Ray with Norris McWhirter's replacement!

There are other, silky orators holding us hostage to dreams and promises that they cannot guarantee to deliver - hey, I hear you say, that's politics!

Well it might be, but we might also just be seeing a shift in how politics are going to be delivered in the future.

In other words, will politicians soon be forced by law or voters, to honour their promises?  Will a manifesto become law?

Some say they already do honour their promises, but we all know of a large number of times when they don't.

Most people forget what you said but they never forget the way you made them feel.

The best politicians make us feel good.  The really good ones also deliver on what they promised.

Regardless of what you think about Trump - and I'm watching him from afar - he certainly seems to be really shaking things up. I get the distinct impression that the US/World "establishment" want him gone.

The EU/World establishment also want the UK to remain in the EU despite the vote to leave.

Another popular orator, Boris Johnson, wants to get Britain out.

All of this debate has led to a tremendous amount of unprecedented polarity, bile and downright aggression..

I saw it first in 2014 with The Scottish Independence referendum.

Similar rules were agreed before that referendum vote.  "This is a once in a lifetime referendum." and "Whatever you decide the government will implement."

Then the vote comes in and all the promises go out the window. They even said, "...the political fallout would be significant....if they reneged on their promises..." And then they did!

Now you would think that we are used to politicians changing their minds or not doing what they said they would do - or worse - lying.

But this level of reneging and downright lying has released a genie that might never be able to go back into the bottle.  Not only are the politicians lying, but the examples these "pillars of the establishment" are setting is bad news all round for us and our kids.
